23-12-2021 – The coronavirus crisis has drastically changed daily reality for VET students: online lessons, remote guidance, keeping 1.5 metres distance from their fellow students and teachers when at school. Keeping social contacts at a minimum. At the same time, education had to be reinvented to allow for alternative internship opportunities and remote supervision sessions. What consequences did COVID-19 measures have for education and training?

Research by the Dutch Education Inspectorate, published in October 2021, shows that 16 months after the start of the pandemic there are fewer worries now about cognitive deficits. However, less attention has been paid so far to the social and social-emotional skills and needs of VET learners. Many learners had a psychologically difficult time and struggled to stay motivated.
